About
I grew up in South Africa, as a child I remember my grandfather painting outside on the windy coastal cliffs of Kwazulu-Natal. I have always practised and studied drawing and painting, combining this with raising a family in Surrey, part-time teaching, and studying for an OU degree in Art History. I am now able to paint full-time, working in my studio or outdoors in the landscape.
I like to work from life, and am drawn to colour relationships and light, I will arrange objects such as cups, vases, flowers and fruit and build up tones of colour in oils responding to the natural light in the space. Sometimes the finished painting is more traditional in nature, on occasion my work moves towards a more decorative or abstract effect. I am fascinated by this progression and wish to develop this practice which evolves over time, and with repeated realisation of my imagination and ideas.
I also paint in the landscape and am a member of and have exhibited with the Surrey Hills Plein Air Painters, and with Surrey Artist Open Studios.
